Digesting the data: what can we do once the data are out there?

"Beyond aggregation"

  • Distributed conversations
  • Better targetted advertising, based on this aggregated data
  • Presence / location-based services
  • Discovering hidden relationships and interests
  • Use of activities to keep your social graph more accurate (e.g. via recent emails from contacts or blog commenters)
  • Reduce the "network effect"
  • Location plus social network information used, for example, to make suggestions for products / services based on where you are and using data from your friends (social recommendation plus location based services)
  • Aggregating and selling data to third parties (bits of traffic data pulled from various sources)
